I thought we were pretty clear in November that this was no longer an acceptable answer. When I voted in November I was making a very clear statement; show me how representation is done.
Mitch McConnell did not surprise me when he walked out of a closed door meeting with V.P. Biden and announced a tax extension compromise on behalf of the people. Honestly, I wondered why people were so ready to jump behind him as having seen the light. Yes, he made a few good speeches, but no better than I have seen in the past. I thought we were finally moving past the point where a properly worded speech could lull us into glazy grin of forgotten memories and blind following. Sadly, quicker than expected McConnell showed the hollowness of his words and got right back into politics as usual.
What did surprise me though was seeing “cot” conservatives and some of those who I had real hope for spouting phrases from the “how politics are done” playbook. Compromise? Give to get? Where is all the pre-election rhetoric like, if we have to we will wait until January and pass a clean tax extension and make the Dems, the Rino’s and or the President put pen to paper in support of tax increases in a crippled economy. What about “the days of backroom deals are over.” Do those using these words to get elected think we will forget this promise anymore than we have forgotten “new era of transparency” or “meetings on C-span?’ If we do then we deserve what we get. I for one will not and I am already keeping score. 2012 election year conversions won’t work, I won’t be grading on a curve. If you don’t get it right now someone else will get the chance in 2012.
Here’s what is on the scorecard so far.
§ Food Safety; Grows Gov’t and Increases spending
§ Ban Earmarks
§ “Tax extension compromise” Increases spending, raises taxes (estate), has un-funded entitlements (unemployment), and unfunded subsidies
Just to be fare, one last reminder.
1. Follow The Constitution
2. Stop spending now
3. Shrink government don’t grow it
4. Reduce and repeal regulation don’t expand it
5. Shackel or remove regulatory agencies
6. Reform or replace IRS
7. It’s not your money
8. Stand firm or say goodbye, You represent us!
